First in a Series of Royal Brides - Princess Elizabeth, 1947

It's been a hard year for the Queen and her husband Prince Philip.  In addition to the joy surrounding the birth of their great-grandchild Prince George and the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the Queen's coronation, the Duke of Edinburgh has been laid low after an exploratory operation.  Rarely out of commission, the past few years have seen several health challenges for the 92 year-old prince.  It makes those interested in such things remember that this particular royal couple has been married for an exceptionally long time - nearly 66 years in fact!  Here's my interpretation of how the Queen, as Princess Elizabeth, looked on her wedding day in 1947.  For those of you in the know, yes, I took a little liberty with the setting.  Since the wedding actually took place on a grey and rainy day in November, it's rather unlikely that the trees lining the Mall in front of Buckingham Palace were in full leaf!  But, then, that's the fun of illustration and art...  You can make things look like you WANT them to look!

Enjoy!
